Naan Avan illai (2007) Tamil Movie Synopsis:

Time for some sentimental rewind, as the first acknowledged remake of an earlier Tamil film Naan Avanillai hits the screen. The 2007 version of Selva is technically far superior to the 1976 movie made by KB, but the modern remake lacks the bite of the original .Still it is worth a look, for its racy narration.
The film opens with Annamalai (Jeevan), a village simpleton being arrested and produced before a court on charges of making tall claims and marrying unsuspecting gullible women and later cheating them and running away with their money or jewels! The Judge (Lakshmi) listens in the crowded courtroom as Priya (Malavika), Ammu Kutty (Jyothirmayi), Radha (Keerthi Chawla) and Monica (Namitha), say that he sweet-talked them and later married and conned them. For each of his victim, he had a different name, look and profession.

The judge’s daughter Anjali (Sneha) who had also been tricked into parting with some cash by the con man takes a fascination for him as the case progresses. Meanwhile the police officer (Raj Kapoor) investigating the case finds out that he is none other than Joseph Fernandez, an intelligent student who due to bad influences takes the easy way out by becoming a fraud and trickster. To all the charges against him the cool, smooth talking and confident Annamalai has only one constant answer-Naan Avanillai! (I’am not him).

The film basically works due to Jeevan’s riveting con man act, and the bad boy image he has in his earlier films. He is there throughout the film along with his glamour girls, who provide enough skin show. U.K Senthil Kumar’s camera, and Suresh Urs editing along with Pattukotai Prabhakaran’s crisp dialogues, are some of the high points in the film. On the downside there are far too many songs by Vijay Antony which acts as a speed breaker to the racy narration and almost all of them are picturised in a glamorous way.

But nevertheless it is good fun and will appeal to a broad spectrum of audiences. Jeevan’s cool dude Casanova act and overall packaging of Selva, gives it a chic look.

Dubai Rani Tamil Dubbed Telugu Movie Presentation:

Ravi Teja did well in his role. His performance is stereotype with blend of humor and Bheemavaram accent in dialogues. Nayantara is bright and hot. She really presented well in a couple of songs. Shiyaji Shinde has done a different role in this film with full length comedy. Sushant Singh is adequate as Villain. MS Narayana's role as Fire Star Salman Raju is the highlight in the film. The character really worked well in the climax. Brahmanandam and Sunil spilled little comedy in their style. Camera work, editing and direction really score well. Music is not up to the mark. Mani Sharma did an inadequate performance in that aspect.

Direction: Hari

Production: M. Chintamani

Synopsis:

The D-day has finally arrived and with it comes Vel, one of the much-awaited movies of the festive season. Vel had everyone in the industry as well as the fans wondering whether the successful pair – Surya and Asin – could ignite the silver screen once again after their smash hit Gajini.

The movie has nothing new to offer and has all the aspects that one can expect of director Hari. It has shades of Hari’s earlier ventures all hashed up. Looks like the story has been inspired from good old movies, as its storyline is the stale twins-parted-during-childhood kind and how the family reunites, not to mention the villain somewhere out there wrecking vengeance.

As said earlier, one of the twins, played by Surya, is lost during childhood. A rich man from a village takes him under his care and brings him up, as his own son, naming him Shakthivel a.k.a Vel, who unaware of his true ancestry, grows up a village deary.

Meanwhile, heroine Asin learns about the existence of Vel and informs his twin, Vasu, a detective, who happens to live in the city with his mother. Vasu firmly believes that Vel is his brother and goes to the village to find out the truth. What ensues after this is the usual swapping of roles by the brothers to fight the villains and how the family reunites.

As usual, Surya has given his best. He looks relishing after a year long gap. Asin is her bubbly self as 7up Swathi, enjoying every bit of it. Vadivelu’s comedy is stale barring a few scenes. Music, scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja, is very average and if one expects it to bring in the crowds to the theatres, then they are in for a rude shock. Brindha and Kalyan’s choreography is very mediocre and has nothing worth mentioning. Nothing novel has been attempted by the cinematographer, Priyan, but the special effects are excellent, particularly in scenes where both the Suryas are shown together.

The movie, before the intermission drags on and on but the second half moves at a faster pace, thanks to the screenplay. But Hari could have made it even crispier.

Overall a usual predictable movie added with all the masala that the fans need for an entertainer.
