Ilaignan Movie Story:
Set on the backdrop of 1959, the story begins with Kargy (pa vijay) who is the son of Arogyasamy (nasser) and Valliammal (kushboo). Kargy joins the company of Rajanayakam (suman) who is an evil man and he is controlled by his wife Sena (namitha). In no time, Kargy gathers the support of his workers and begins to rage a revolt against Rajanayakam. However, Valliammal urges Kargy to revolt peacefully. He is helped in this by Meera (meera jasmine) and also his lover Ramya (ramya). What happens after that forms the rest of the story.

Ilaignan Movie Presentation:
The director has come up with an outdated storyline and while the presentation was alright, the narrative was weak. The dialogues were intense, the script was average and the screenplay got a bit jerky. Background score was good but songs were uninteresting except for one. Cinematography is moderate. Editing was alright. Costumes were suitable to the backdrop while the art department was the key highlight. Pa Vijay was okay and did his bit as required, Meera Jasmine made her presence felt, Ramya Nambeesan was sensuous, Kushboo was powerful, Suman and Namitha were mean enough. The others contributed in their own way.

Ilaignan Movie Conclusion:
The film is basically a period flick and true to its times, even the story was old. While the first half goes about with sentiment and melodrama, the second half gets into romance and some action sequences. The film could have been better if the performances from few were convincing and few scenes should have been trimmed. At the box office, this might appeal the B, C Centre audience but overall, it is an average fare.

HQMoviesBox verdict: Not up to the mark

Naan Avan illai (2007) Tamil Movie Cast and Crew:

Cast: Jeevan, Sneha, Namitha, Malavika, Jyothirmayi and Keerthi Chawla, Raj Kapoor, Livingston, Mayilsamy
Director: Selva
Producer: Mr Hitesh Jaboc
Music: Vijay Antony
Cinematography: U.K. Senthil

Naan Avan illai (2007) Tamil Movie Synopsis:

Time for some sentimental rewind, as the first acknowledged remake of an earlier Tamil film Naan Avanillai hits the screen. The 2007 version of Selva is technically far superior to the 1976 movie made by KB, but the modern remake lacks the bite of the original .Still it is worth a look, for its racy narration.
The film opens with Annamalai (Jeevan), a village simpleton being arrested and produced before a court on charges of making tall claims and marrying unsuspecting gullible women and later cheating them and running away with their money or jewels! The Judge (Lakshmi) listens in the crowded courtroom as Priya (Malavika), Ammu Kutty (Jyothirmayi), Radha (Keerthi Chawla) and Monica (Namitha), say that he sweet-talked them and later married and conned them. For each of his victim, he had a different name, look and profession.

The judge’s daughter Anjali (Sneha) who had also been tricked into parting with some cash by the con man takes a fascination for him as the case progresses. Meanwhile the police officer (Raj Kapoor) investigating the case finds out that he is none other than Joseph Fernandez, an intelligent student who due to bad influences takes the easy way out by becoming a fraud and trickster. To all the charges against him the cool, smooth talking and confident Annamalai has only one constant answer-Naan Avanillai! (I’am not him).

The film basically works due to Jeevan’s riveting con man act, and the bad boy image he has in his earlier films. He is there throughout the film along with his glamour girls, who provide enough skin show. U.K Senthil Kumar’s camera, and Suresh Urs editing along with Pattukotai Prabhakaran’s crisp dialogues, are some of the high points in the film. On the downside there are far too many songs by Vijay Antony which acts as a speed breaker to the racy narration and almost all of them are picturised in a glamorous way.

But nevertheless it is good fun and will appeal to a broad spectrum of audiences. Jeevan’s cool dude Casanova act and overall packaging of Selva, gives it a chic look.

Life goes smoothly but one day Rajashekar sees a news report in TV on a particular issue that took place in Malaysia and much to everyone's dismay gets a heart attack and dies. Shocked by this, Vetrivel begins to figure out the cause for this, he decides to go to Malaysia and there he takes the help of the local news reporter Inba (Farzana). Inba falls for Vetrivel instantly and also helps him in his search, at the same time he also takes the help of Chandini (Namitha) who is the daughter of a former Public Prosecutor. In this, Vetrivel discovers that his father was actually a cop in Malaysia and he gets framed wrongly in a case and also loses his family, that's what gets him to Tamilnadu. How does Vetrivel resolve the issues and bring the baddies to justice forms the rest of the story.

1977 Tamil Movie Presentation:

The director has come up with a routine storyline but then he has worked well on the presentation, however the narrative could have been a lot better. The dialogues were alright, the script was written with few flaws, screenplay was okay. Music was suiting the environment and few numbers were good. Cinematography captured the angles and locations perfectly. Editing could have been crisper and it would have helped the movie. Sarath Kumar came up with a very good performance and he shouldered the film very well, Namitha did her job perfectly and oozed out the oomph and glamour in a very big way. Farzana was apt to her role and fitted the bill, Jayasudha was natural, Radha Ravi was effective, Vivek could not generate the laughs this time. The others did their bit.
